#MeToo event calls on men to get involved

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Victims of sexual misconduct fought back in 2017, calling out “Me too.” As the movement continues to grow, men are getting involved in the Port City.

This morning at Wilmington City Hall, hundreds attended an event hosted by A Call to Men, called “Engaging Men in the #MeToo Era.”

The goal was to teach men what it means to be sexually harassed, and how they can help to prevent it.

Law enforcement, community members, and others spoke about the issue.

One woman said she hopes events like this will keep the conversation on top of people’s minds.

“It has been so powerful to bring people to the table that can really affect change. Something that I got out of this that I’ve done with young people is really determining how much do we concentrate on our safety. And I think if we don’t continue to move that towards activism, it will just become noise,” said Domestic Violence Center Outreach Coordinator Andrea Stough.

Tony Porter, co-founder of A Call to Men, spoke at the event, as well as Laney High School football coach Ashad Yeoman.

They both stressed the importance of sharing this message with young men.
