Miller Motte says business as usual despite accreditor concerns
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The United States Department of Education has cut ties with the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. ACICS is the accreditor for Miller Motte College here in Wilmington.
A spokesman for Miller Motte, Chuck Vella, said there are no immediate impacts on students. ACICS is planning on appealing the decision and Vella said it would be more than 18 months before any changes would happen.
Friday WWAY went out to the college talking with students about the news. Many said they were surprised by it, while others said it didn’t really impact them at all because their programs were only for certificates.
Vella asked us to leave the campus. He said he did not believe that the Department of Education’s decision would have any impact on students at Miller Motte here in the Port City. Vella also said that you can’t change history, so students who already have degrees from the school still have valid degrees. The Department of Education backs up Vella’s statement.
