Missing packages are the latest example of ongoing mail delivery issues in Leland

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — “I don’t even know where this package is,” said Amber Marco.

Amber Marco never expected to spend the days before Christmas hunting for a missing holiday gift.

She lives on Pinecliff Drive, a dirt road approximately 0.4 miles away from her standard size mailbox.

But the journey there is only half of the battle.

Larger packages won’t fit in her mailbox, requiring her to pick them up from the Leland post office, which is a 10-minute drive.

The other day, a redelivery slip was left in her mailbox, instructing her to pick up a particular package from 5744 Market Street in Wilmington.

On Monday while she was at the post office in Leland, she showed the slip to the postal worker behind the desk.

“She said ‘You can’t even pick up at this location and then grabbed the phone and made a phone call. She said come back tomorrow,” said Marco.

This response adds to Marco’s frustration, who says that package deliveries to her home are inconsistent.

“My biggest thing is I’ll get packages brought to my house. Yesterday, I had a package delivered to my house from the post office. So, I don’t understand, like I don’t know the process, I don’t know how it works here, but there are days that I get these slips, and I get a package at my front door,” said Marco.

This is the latest in a series of complaints from Leland residents who say the community has outgrown the main post office.

Problems had grown so large that Leland Town Council met to write up a resolution to send to Congressman Rouzer and the US Postal Service in hopes of making positive steps towards progress on wrangling the mail dilemma.

For now, Marco just wants her mail delivered properly, especially around the holidays.

“So, and that only happens during Christmas, but, why don’t all packages just get delivered then to the front door,” said Marco.

The post office tells WWAY “Leland customers who receive a pink redelivery slip and would like to pick up their package should do so at the Leland post office. We apologize to this customer for listing an incorrect postal facility as the pick-up location. We will remind employees of the correct location to be listed on redelivery slips.  We thank customers for their continued support.”
