MLK celebrations continue through Tuesday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations are underway across southeastern North Carolina.
Over 8 days, several events are taking place throughout Wilmington which started Monday and will continue through next Tuesday.
From a banquet, to plays, to a fun day in the park for kids there are many things the community is doing to celebrate Doctor King.
Hollis Briggs Jr. is the Chairman of the MLK Celebrations and he says he loves all the energy the events have.
"It means a lot to me because I lived in Atlanta for 24 years and I was in Atlanta when they made Dr. King's birthday a holiday. I feel like I brought that part of the dream here back to Wilmington and I've nurtured it and I've turned it into this," said Briggs.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday and will be celebrated by a parade downtown at 11 am with over 130 floats.
