MLK Day Celebration held at Wilmington Convention Center
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Monday, hundreds of people attended an event at the Wilmington Convention Center in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The MLK Celebration Committee hosted the celebration event instead of the annual parade, which was canceled.
The event featured several speakers, musicians, and performance groups.
Many people who would have walked in the parade, such as employees of Cape Fear Public Utility Authority and the New Hanover County chapter of the NAACP, had booths where they distributed information to those attending the event.
Wilmington resident Miles Davidson says it was nice seeing so many people taking part.
“It means a lot because that was part of the Dream,” Davidson said. “That we all can come together and far as that, we continue to work on it. Yes, we still have a lot of things we can work toward or work for, but at least we’re still working toward the Dream.”
A spokesperson for the Celebration Committee said while the parade will return next year, they are also looking at the possibility of holding the indoor celebration event again in addition to the parade.
