Mobile unit offers mammograms to female veterans
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — While attention is drawn to breast cancer during October, the VA says breast cancer awareness should be a year-round activity.
To make it easier for female veterans to get mammograms, the Wilmington VA Clinic will have a mobile unit for breast cancer screening on site from now until January.
The VA encourages all women between the ages of 50 and 75 to get mammograms every two years. Wilmington’s growth helped get the mobile unit.
“The reason that Wilmington was selected is because we have a large female population on the coast, veteran population, and it’s growing,” said Elizabeth Goolsby who is the Fayetteville Medical Center director.
If you’re a female veteran receiving care at the Wilmington, Jacksonville or Brunswick County VA outreach clinics, you should contact your provider to schedule a mammogram screening.
