Moms Demand Action meet in Wilmington as group gains interest statewide

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)  –  A group that lobbies for reform and safer gun laws is growing across the state. That was the reason Moms Demand Action held an information meeting tonight in Wilmington.

Moms Demand Action leaders say people have grown interest in the grassroots group in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.

Local members say the group actively takes part in anti-violence events around the city.

Thursday, Jessica Hulick with the state chapter asked how many attendees were first time visitors to the group meeting, nearly half of the people in the room raised their hands.

Statewide, the group has seen the number of chapters increase three-fold since the school shooting.

“I have added fifty new leaders just within the last month,” said Hulick. “These are moms, working moms, stay at home moms, and dads too who have just had enough and want to change the way that our children are feeling about gun violence.”

The group plans to take part in the “March for Our Lives” event set for March 24th.
