More break-ins at UNCW; University Police asking for community’s help
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Over the weekend, three buildings here at UNCW were broken into. Now, police say they need your help figuring out who’s responsible.
“We hope that in this case, the community will help to serve and inform us and maybe provide us some information that will help us close these cases,” said UNCW Police Chief David Donaldson.
Kenan Auditorium, Alderman Hall, and James Hall were robbed over the weekend. Donaldson says this is not the first roberty of its kind on campus but it is unusual.
“It’s quite extrodinary for us to have force entries into buildings,” said Donaldson. “What occured was windows were broken and doors were pried into and it appeared that the thief or thieves were looking for cash and a variety of electronic items.”
Donaldson says this break in is very similar to one that happened back in December. UNCW says no student or personnel records were taken in either of the robberies and the buildings have been repaired. It says security will increase on campus during overnight hours to make sure that campus is safe and secure.
Donaldson says both cases are still under investigation. University police are working with the city to figure out who is to blame.
