More Myrtle Beach police officers means larger case loads for detectives

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) — The City of Myrtle Beach is getting more police officers on the streets, but one side effect is a larger case load for detectives.

Last year, 14 detectives investigated nearly 3100 cases last year. Every time an officer makes an incident report, if it’s a violent crime or property crime it goes to their investigative division.

“We do open up a lot of investigations here because we do a lot of reports here, and document what’s occurred in the city,” said Lt. Joey Crosby.

Myrtle Beach Police say some cases are closed fairly quickly, but violent crimes and high level white collar property crimes are becoming more complex and time consuming.
