More than two dozen trees to be planted at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees and Audi Cape Fear are joining forces to plant trees at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy.
51 trees will be planted on Sunday as part of their ongoing “Fearless Forests” initiative.
For every electric Audi e-tron sold during August and September, Audi Cape Fear pledged to fund the planting of two trees.
“No place where friends, family, or—in this case—students gather is complete without trees to share memories under,” says Chris Bucknell, Audi Cape Fear’s general manager. “We’re glad we can make a difference in the community and potentially help create a more sustainable environment for future generations. Thank you, Alliance for Cape Fear Trees, for being such an amazing partner and enabling us to help support our community so easily.”
The trees being planted are eastern red cedar, southern magnolia, and southern live oak. Apple and pear trees along with blackberry and blueberry bushed will be added to the student’s garden area.
“The native vegetation buffer serves as support for local wildlife populations, beautification of the D.C. Virgo campus, and provides a privacy screen for the children playing on the playground,” says Chisholm, a horticulturalist, licensed NC landscape contractor, and landscape designer. “More trees always means more carbon sequestered from the atmosphere, a necessary step in slowing climate change.”
