Most threatened historic places exhibit on display in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There is rich history found virtually everywhere you go in our area.
A group of people are working to keep that true for many years to come.
The Historic Wilmington Foundation unveiled the eight most threatened historic places exhibit at the New Hanover County library in downtown Wilmington today.
Places include churches, sites associated with World War I and African American education, and cemeteries.
Executive Director George Edwards say it’s important to restore what our community was founded on.
“Without recognition, without intervention, we will loose these sites and if we lose them, we lose a part of who we are,” Edwards said. “History informs us and without our history, we have to ask ourselves who are we and where do we come from.”
The exhibit will be at the library in downtown Wilmington for three weeks before moving on to Pender and Brunswick counties.
It will be seen in several public libraries, the UNCW library, and Thalian hall through next spring.
