Mother dies in head-on collision

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) – A Sneads Ferry woman died in a head-on collision Saturday morning.

According to the Surf City Police Department, Travis Luckinbill of Raleigh was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on N.C. Highway 50. Police say he drove left of the center line striking a 2015 Toyota Prius driven by Robin Blakenship of Snead Ferry.

Police said Blakenship died at the scene. Her two-year-old son suffered critical injuries and was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Luckinbill and a passenger in the Jeep were also transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police did not know the extent of their injuries.

Police said charges are pending against Luckinbill.

The Surf City Fire Department, Pender E.M.S. and Fire, N.C. State Highway Patrol, Pender County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. A.L.E. assisted Surf City Police with the investigation.
