Mother of drowning victim faces charges

WHITE LAKE, NC (WWAY) — The mother of the boy who drowned in White Lake last month now faces a felony child abuse charge.

White Lake Police said Bladen County deputies arrested Teresa Denise Lauderback Thursday afternoon without incident. They said she is in the Bladen County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.

Investigators said Lauderback was there as someone pulled her 4-year-old from the water on June 15. A good samaritan performed CPR until emergency workers arrived and took the child to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The White Lake Police Department conducted the investigation with help from the Bladen County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bladen County Department of Social Services.

White Lake Police have not released any more information on the case.
