Mother taken into custody after baby reported kidnapped found dead

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, SC (WSOC) — A mother has been taken into custody after a child who was the subject of an Amber Alert in Chesterfield County, SC was found dead Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies said the woman told them a man ripped 11-month-old Harlee Lane Lewis from her arms as she walked out to her mailbox on Jackson Road East northeast Chesterfield at about 2 p.m. and then sped off in an SUV.

But deputies searched the area and found the body of the infant hidden inside a diaper box about 1,000 yards from the home.

The woman has not been identified.
