Mountain bike cyclists race at Blue Clay Park on a rainy Sunday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County has more than its fair share of mountain bike trails even though we’re nowhere near the mountains. Mountain terrain isn’t required for an impressive mountain bike trail layout. Man-made hills, creativity and a solid volunteer effort from the community will sometimes do the trick. In fact Sunday was race day at Blue Clay Bike Park in New Hanover County.

The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) Cape Fear chapter is dedicated to maintaining current trails and building new trails in New Hanover and Brunswick counties. On Sunday Blue Clay Bike Trail was the location of the 5th Coastal Carolina Off-Road Series. It was the 5th race of 7 that CCORS and SORBA will put on this spring.
