Movie goers react to recent movie theater attack in Tennessee

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two movie theater incidents in two weeks, that includes today in Nashville Tennessee. Police shot and killed a man wielding a hatchet and an air soft pistol. And nearly two weeks ago in Louisiana a man shot several people in a theater there.

We asked if local movie goers feel safe going to catch a flick. At Mayfaire Cinemas in Wilmington some said they were shocked to hear about the incident in Nashville.

Eric Varga said since these types of situations are so rare he still feels safe going to a see a film.

“Well I don’t see it as an issue. Obviously there are incidents. They happen,” said Varga.

Lupita Sevilla said she feels safe going to the movies but it’s hard to believe violent attacks even happen at the movie theater.

“It just seems like something that wouldn’t happen. You know you go to the movies and you’re not thinking that you’re going to be attacked. It feels like a safe place you know. You never think that is going to happen,” said Sevilla.

When we asked people if they think metal detectors or bag searches are necessary at theaters, all of them said that would actually keep them from going to movies and do not think those things are necessary.
