Multi-agency command center set up at Wrightsville Beach for holiday weekend
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A multi-agency command center set up shop in Wrightsville Beach to help keep folks safe this holiday weekend. Officers from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wrightsville Beach Police, Wrightsville Beach Fire, EMS, New Hanover County Fire and the US Coast Guard worked together to patrol the area.
According to the Coast Guard, this year they are really cracking down on illegal water taxis. The fine for operating one can be as high as $27,500.
Wrightsville Beach Police Chief Dan House said they are also cracking down on underage drinking both at Wrightsville Beach as well as on Masonboro Island.
They said that this weekend has been pretty typical and they have not seen any significant situations so far.
