Multiple organizations to plant more than 100 trees in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees (ACFT) will lead the planting of more than 100 trees in Wilmington’s Northside neighborhood on Saturday.
Planting will start at Portia Hines Park at 9 a.m. with many gathering to dig in and plant trees with the support from the New Hanover County Cooperative Extension Master Gardner Volunteer Association, North Carolina Urban Forest Council, and Residents of Old Wilmington.
“Trees are green infrastructure,” said Isabelle Shepherd, Executive Director of ACFT. “They improve physical health, lower energy costs, add natural beauty, and reduce stress. But not every neighborhood has equal access to these benefits. That’s what we’re here to change.”
This project is also funded by a grant from New Hanover County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association.
The native or regionally adapted trees, selected by the City of Wilmington, are chosen for their ability to thrive in Wilmington’s climate and perform well in urban conditions.
