Myrtle Beach police involved in 2nd officer-involved shooting
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating another deadly officer-involved shooting in Myrtle Beach, according to Capt. Joey Crosby with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Myrtle Beach police responded to the area of 3rd Avenue South early Friday morning in reference to a suspicious person.
Officers made contact with the individual and observed that he was armed with a handgun, according to Crosby.
Crosby said the individual turned towards officers and pointed his weapon at the officers.
In fear for their lives, Crosby said officers discharged their weapons at him.
Officers immediately began CPR and other life saving measures but that person was pronounced deceased on scene, according to Crosby.
Rodney Wayne Martin called 911 to report the incident. He said the suspect was sitting across the street staring into his house. “Sitting there doodling on my phone. I get a little bit of time passed and I was like, ‘okay, this guy’s starting to make me nervous.’ He’s sitting facing my house. I said I’m going into the house and call the police.”
The officer involved in this incident has been placed on administrative duty pending the conclusion of the investigation.

This is the second deadly officer-involved shooting in Myrtle Beach for 2017.
