Myrtle Beach woman indicted after newborn found in trash
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A Myrtle Beach woman has been indicted on an attempted murder charge after her newborn baby was found abandoned in a trash bin.
The Sun News reports 23-year-old Shelby Harper Taylor was indicted in documents released Tuesday. Authorities say the baby was found hours after it was born inside a dumpster April 9. Two brothers taking trash out found the baby after hearing her cries. They said the baby’s face was pressed against a garbage bag and covered in trash and the newborn’s umbilical cord was still attached.
Taylor was arrested April 11 and taken to a local hospital for treatment. She was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released on $10,000 bail.
The baby has been placed with the S.C. Department of Social Services.
