Name released of Marine who died during conditioning hike at Camp Lejeune
JACKSONVILLE, NC (WCTI) — Camp Lejeune officials have released the name of the Marine who collapsed and died on Thursday during a conditioning hike.
Corporal Alexis Aaron Alcaraz, 22, of Sacramento, California, lost consciousness and was transported to the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment.
Alcaraz was a decorated active-duty Marine who also had served in San Diego, Camp Pendleton, California, Twentynine Palms, California and Okinawa, Japan. He had been at Camp Lejeune less than a year.
