National Cemetery ceremony honors area veterans

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Ceremonies all over the Cape Fear area throughout Memorial Day honored those in the military who sacrificed everything.

This year’s fallen veterans were honored at Wilmington National Cemetery, where nearly 500 people came out to show their respects to the ones who paid the ultimate price for us.

A list naming all 534 local veterans who died this year were read aloud to give closure to families and friends in attendance. Many at the event talked of the importance of the event held each year, and what Memorial Day means to them.
