National Go Red Day shines light on women’s heart health
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You may have noticed that some people were wearing red on Friday and its all to show support for an important cause.
Friday was National Go Red for Women’s Day, a day to raise awareness about heart disease and heart issues in women.
According to the CDC, more than 60 million women living in the US have some form of heart disease or cardiovascular issue.
Mary Hamrick is a nurse practitioner at Novant Health’s Heart and Vascular Institute.
She said it’s never too late to raise awareness about how to keep your heart healthy.
“It’s super important cause actually one in 3 women die from some sort of cardiovascular disease each year,” Hamrick said. “So its super important that we bring awareness to the risk factors and things that we can do to try to manage and eliminate the possibilities.”
Hamrick says even women in their 20s and 30s should be talking to their physicians about how they can maintain a healthy heart.
