NC 4th of July Festival earns 501(c)(3) status, expanding fundraising opportunities

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) –Organizers of the North Carolina Fourth of July Festival have announced the festival has officially been granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service, opening the door to new funding opportunities and expanded community support.
The designation allows the longtime nonprofit to qualify for a wider range of grants and provides tax benefits for individuals, businesses, and foundations that contribute to the festival.
Festival President Hugh Fosbury said the organization had been awaiting the IRS determination letter confirming the change.
“This new status will allow our nonprofit to better encourage fundraising through donations and sponsorships,” Fosbury said. “It also enhances trust with the public, donors, and partners, and expands our eligibility for grants that require 501(c)(3) status.”
The weeklong festival, which draws more than 65,000 visitors annually, relies heavily on sponsorships and donations to support its lineup of events. This year’s celebration will include both longtime favorites and new programming, along with special events marking the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence.
Organizers have released a range of sponsorship opportunities, from $250 “Sparkler” packages to $10,000 “Eagle” sponsorships, offering benefits such as promotional recognition, signage, and VIP experiences.
More information on sponsorships, fundraising efforts, and the full event schedule is available on the festival’s official website.
