NC Dept. of Insurance ‘examining’ Blue Cross and Blue Shield

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — A spokesperson with the North Carolina Department of Insurance said their department is looking into issues with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, after more than 1,000 complaints were filed.

A spokesperson said those complaints were filed between January 4 to now. Issues include overbilling, inability to verify coverage and other system errors with the company, the released said.

A couple of weeks ago, WWAY spoke to local Blue Cross customers who expressed their frustrations with the system issues. The reaction came after BCBSNC announced their issues were improving.

The department is looking into BCBSNC after Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin met with top executives of BCBSNC this week.
