NC lawmakers hold joint session to honor Duke hoop title

RALEIGH, NC (AP) – Another national championship, another visit to the North Carolina Legislature for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils.

The General Assembly celebrated Duke’s latest NCAA title on Tuesday with the House and Senate unanimously passing a resolution to honor the Blue Devils for capturing their fifth championship.

Athletic Director Kevin White, Coach Mike Krzyzewski and his three assistant coaches were among those honored in person.

The three Triangle schools have combined for 10 national titles since 1982 – with half belonging to Duke. The Blue Devils won their fifth title last month by beating Wisconsin 68-63 in Indianapolis.

Sen. Dan Blue says “there’s no doubt about who dominates college basketball.”

The Wake County Democrat says “I think (the state of) North Carolina can lay claim to doing that.”
