RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The General Assembly’s work may not be over this year if Gov. Pat McCrory believes replenishing a critical economic recruitment tool in North Carolina can’t wait until January.
McCrory says he’ll call the current legislature back to Raleigh for a special work session if situations warrant to discuss more economic incentives considered key to landing jobs.
Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker said Monday there are many pending recruitment projects in the hopper as the state nears a cap on the dollar amount of job-creation grants the legislature has authorized a special state panel to offer.
Decker says some companies may make relocation and expansion decisions before the legislature begins its next two-year session in early 2015.
Over the summer, the House defeated a bill that included the grant expansion.
