NC pregnant woman survives crash that split car in two

GASTON COUNTY, NC (WSOC) — A pregnant woman is recovering after a serious crash in Gaston County split her car into two pieces Tuesday afternoon.

The Lincolnton Fire Department said the accident happened on Highway 321 near the Lincoln and Gaston county lines.

According to state troopers, 20-year-old Haley Smith was driving her Honda Accord north on Highway 321 when she ran off the road to the right and overcorrected back onto the median. The car then went airborne before landing in the southbound lanes where it was hit by an SUV and split in half.

EMS crews on scene said Smith was unconscious when they arrived and rushed her to the hospital. She is recovering and officials said she did not receive serious injuries and there were no complications with the pregnancy.
