NC school leader charged with DWI at graduation

NEWTON, NC (AP) – An assistant principal at a North Carolina high school has been charged with driving while impaired in the parking lot at the school’s graduation.

Local media outlets reported that 46-year-old Butler High School assistant principal Andrew Stiles was arrested Saturday after Hickory police accused him of hitting two cars in the parking lot of the Catawba Valley Community College where Bunker Hill’s graduation ceremony occurred.

The Newton Observer News Enterprise reported that Stiles failed two field sobriety tests and registered a .16 on a breath test, twice the legal limit in North Carolina.

It was not known if Stiles has an attorney. He has a hearing scheduled later this month.Hickory is about 50 miles northwest of Charlotte.
