NC Senate convenes for catch-all Friday session

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The North Carolina Senate has called members in for an unusual Friday workday in an effort to move along key legislation in the waning days of the General Assembly’s 2016 session.

Senate leaders scheduled committee meetings to push dozens of bills to the floor, including those regarding immigration, city council redistricting and a proposed Achievement School District and a constitutional amendment to lower the state’s income tax cap.

The House is not meeting, but Senate and House leaders continue to negotiate on a budget compromise.

The Senate is expected to meet for floor debate in the late afternoon.
