NC State Auditor Beth Wood running for re-election

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood is seeking a third four-year term leading the office responsible for keeping close tabs on government agency spending and whether the money is being spent correctly.

Wood announced her 2016 re-election bid Monday. The Craven County native and Democrat is a certified public accountant who worked in the private sector and in the State Auditor’s Office before being elected as the first woman to the post in 2008.

The 61-year-old Wood says in a statement that her credentials and experience have helped the auditor’s office identify hundreds of millions of dollars of inefficient spending and led to legislation to address it.
