Reports: NC State to pay Keatts $2.2M in 6-year deal

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Former UNCW basketball coach Kevin Keatts will reportedly get a big pay raise in his new job.

Multiple news outlets, including the News & Observer of Raleigh, report Keatts early $2.2 million a year in his six-year contract to coach NC State. The Wolfpack announced Keatts as their new coach last night about 30 hours after UNCW lost its first-round NCAA Tournament game to Virginia in Orlando.

Keatts made about $600,000 this year as he led the Seahawks to their second straight CAA Tournament crown and NCAA Tournament appearance. Each of those NCAA trips ended in the first round against ACC opponents Keatts will get to know very well moving forward. Last year UNCW led Duke for much of their Big Dance game before the Blue Devils rallied late.

UNCW has named Takayo Siddle, an assistant under Keatts, the Seahawks’ interim head coach.
