NC transportation secretary resigns abruptly
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Governor Pat McCrory announced in a news release the secretary of transportation has resigned effective immediately.
McCrory said Tony Tata is resigning to focus on personal and family matters. The news release also said Tata wants to pursue his passion as an author. Before this position with the NCDOT, Tata worked in public education and retired from the Army as a brigadier general. During his service, Tata was awarded the Bronze Star.
“Tony Tata has been a valuable partner in our efforts to reform and modernize North Carolina’s transportation system,” McCrory said. “His dedication to the people of North Carolina is in keeping with his long career of service to his community, state and country.”
There’s no word on why the resignation was effective immediately.
