NC Wildlife investigating after fisherman found dead in cove near Cape Fear River
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An investigation is underway after a man was recently found dead in Pender County.
North Carolina Wildlife says Ivey James Blackburn Jr. was found floating on the water in a cove near the northeast Cape Fear River.
They say Blackburn went fishing alone on April 10th and when he didn’t return home that evening family got worried and called the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.
A different fisherman found an unoccupied boat in the area two days later and called authorities. The man eventually located a body floating on the water.
Officials say the boat did belong to Blackburn, who was found wearing a life jacket.
A cause of death is being awaited from the medical examiner’s office.
