NC woman charged in death of 15-month old daughter

DURHAM, NC (AP) — Durham police have charged a 22-year-old woman with murder in the beating death of her 15-month old daughter.

Local media outlets report that Melanie Lashay Battle was arrested in Halifax County in northeastern North Carolina on Tuesday on a warrant sworn out by Durham police.

She is being held at the jail there until she can be brought back to Durham. It was not immediately known if she had an attorney.

Durham police said a medical examiner determined that 15-month old Tameya Rodgers died of blunt-force trauma in May of last year.
