NCDMV ending 7 a.m. openings at 90 driver license offices
ROCKY MOUNT, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles says extended early-morning hours at 90 driver license offices across the state will end this week as federal funding runs out.
The change takes effect Monday, Feb. 9, after funding from the American Rescue Plan Act State Fiscal Recovery Fund is fully exhausted, according to NCDMV officials.
The affected offices have been opening at 7 a.m. instead of the standard 8 a.m. to help manage high demand for driver license and identification services.
“Unfortunately, this funding stream has been exhausted, and we’ll no longer be able to provide this extra hour of service at our offices,” said NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine. “We hope to be able to offer extended hours, including Saturday service, but that is dependent on future funding availability.”
NCDMV says this week, through Friday, will be the final week the 90 offices open at 7 a.m. Beginning Monday, Feb. 9, all affected locations will return to standard operating hours, opening at 8 a.m.
Customers are encouraged to check the most up-to-date office hours for their location through the NCDMV website.
