NCDMV to open modular office in Brunswick County by early 2026

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The NC Division of Motor Vehicles has released new details about an office coming to Brunswick County.

In November, NCDMV released its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.

The Division said it is targeting the Leland area for a long-term facility based on existing service demand and future population growth.

NCDMV Communications Director Marty Homan said a modular unit will be located at the NCDOT Belville Bridge Yard at 25 Old River Road in Leland.

Homan said officials plan for this modular unit to open in February 2026.

The modular unit could be in place for a few years, while NCDMV continues to evaluate land acquisition in the Leland area to construct or purchase a permanent facility.

According to a recent report from NCDMV, “An RFP for a temporary lease ranging from 3-5-years was closed for the Leland area on September 29, 2025. All three respondents proposed 10-year leases (often preferred by property owners to recoup upfit costs), exceeding the preferred short-term timeframe.

In coordination with the Highways Division of NCDOT, the Belville Bridge Yard was identified as a feasible location due to available space and existing data infrastructure. After identifying the site, NCDMV conducted a cost comparison and found that the most cost-effective short-term approach would be a modular purchase.”

NCDMV said the office in Brunswick County is expected to include 9 terminals and 7 employees, including 6 Examiners and 1 Senior Examiner.

Homan said the employees for the new Brunswick County office have already been hired and are currently working at other nearby NCDMV offices.
