SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation is looking to do some work in Pender County — one of the first projects being done under new leadership.

Trevor Carroll has been appointed as the new Division Engineer for Division 3, following the retirement of former Division Engineer Chad Kimes. Kimes, who retired on Aug. 30, served the department for more than 30 years.

“It is an honor to serve our citizens and work alongside a dedicated team,” Carroll said. “I look forward to continuing to improve our transportation network.”

Carroll graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology. He started his career in the private sector and then came to NCDOT in 2010, serving in both construction and maintenance roles. He most recently served as the Deputy Division Engineer.

As the new Division Engineer, Carroll will lead efforts for ongoing projects happening in Division 3, which consists of Brunswick, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender and Sampson counties.

One of those projects is looking to improve N.C. 210, Caretta Drive and Charlie Medlin Drive in Surf City. The purpose of the project is to improve mobility and increase capacity in the area. More information, including project details and maps, can be found at the project website.

A public meeting on the project will be held on Sept. 9 at Surf City Parks and Recreations – Gymnasium 201 on Community Center Drive in Surf City. The public is invited to attend any time between 5-7 p.m. Staff will be available for discussion and to answer questions; there will not be a formal presentation.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled people who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Alecia Hardy, Environmental Analysis Unit, at 1598 Mail Service Center in Raleigh, 919-707-6072 or ext-arhardy@ncdot.gov as early as possible so arrangements can be made.

People may submit comments by Sept. 30 by calling 984-205-6615 (project code 10352), emailing at NC210-Improvements-SurfCity@publicinput.com, or mailing:
