LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A portion of a busy road in Leland is closing for repair work.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is shutting down a lane of U.S. 17 North Business/ U.S. 421 South overnight for a few weeks.

The left eastbound lane of the highway near the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will be closed overnight between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. beginning April 14th. The closures will take place Sunday nights through Friday mornings each week through May 10th.

The right lane will remain open at all times.

Crews will replace an outdated guardrail system in the median with a concrete wall, similar to the work done on U.S 74.

Drivers should slow down and be alert for crews and equipment going through this work zone.
