NCDOT improving access to drivers license services with CAMS
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Getting your license is about to get a little easier in North Carolina thanks to the NC Department of Transportation.
In an effort to improve customer service and wait times, the Department of Motor Vehicles is turning to CAMS, Convenient Accessible Mobile Service.
According to the NCDOT website, CAMS are specially outfitted SUV’s which can be assembled almost everywhere and have all the components of a regular DMV office.
They will have computers, vision and sign testers, touch-screen testers for exams, cameras, and printers. They will also be able to accept credit or debit cards.
The NCDMV says it expects to see a significant cost savings by phasing out existing RV units. The CAMS operate at a fraction of the cost.
A CAMS will be in Southport at 111 E. Nash Street on the following dates: July 5 – 6, August 8 – 10, September 5 – 7, October 3 – 5, November 7 – 9, and December 5 – 7. It will be open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
