Neighborhood haunted maze returns for its 6th year
"This encourages unity in the community, even if it's just something like sitting on the porch and letting little kids come up and you give them candy."
BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY)–In Brunswick County, one neighborhood is coming alive with Halloween decorations and haunts. Jeff Hertzog is the man behind this haunted trail in Stoney Creek Plantation, and considering what the neighborhood has been through with Potential Tropical Storm Eight last month, he wants to take a few dark times off people’s minds.
There are Dolls, clowns, and spiders!
“It’s like the scene for Arachnophobia,” Hertzog said. “There’s a bunch of spiders. We’ll have a bunch of jumping spiders too!”
These are just a few things you will see in Jeff Hertzog’s haunted trail on Halloween night.
“Most of this stuff stays out year round. So, if it doesn’t have an electrical component, we leave it out,” Hertzog said.
It’s back for its 6th year in Stoney Creek Plantation! This year’s theme is darkness.
“So, the guest will be given one of these at the entryway, and it’s just a pin light,” Hertzog explained. “We kind of work year-round on it, little by little. Then September is when we start doing the decorations.”
And Hertzog is giving WWAY a sneak peek at how he brings this all to life.
“This is our doll house. It’s probably one of my favorite sections, but we’ve collected these dolls for years. There are hidden sections where my actors will hide, and these little girls step out here,” Hertzog showed us.
It’s just a way to bring high energy to a dark time after this tight-knit community was hit hard by Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight last month. However, it’s not just Mother Nature causing division. There are also tensions over the election.
“This encourages unity in the community, even if it’s just something like sitting on the porch and letting little kids come up and you give them candy. It just adds to the experience,” Hertzog said.
For those who aren’t ready to face their fears, there’s a small kiddie trail to enjoy. This attraction is free of charge, but donations are always accepted. It’s open on Halloween night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
