One more beach service business to be added on Carolina Beach
CAROLINA BEACH, N.C (WWAY) — Between the sun, the sand and the massive amount of people, beach rental services rely heavily on the business that comes from the beach.
Need an umbrella when you go to the beach? Just wait for the local beach services to come by.
“Some people may want to rent. Some people may want to buy their own. I think having options is a great thing,” Marilyn Scott said.
“If you’re thinking of tourism and people perhaps traveling a great distance, it may be inconvenient for them to bring their own chairs and umbrellas. Take a lot of room in the car. So it’s nice to be able to have that service available,” Alando Mitchell said.
In Carolina Beach, there are two businesses allowed to sell on the beach: Wheel Fun Rentals and Pleasure Island Rentals.
But soon there will be three, after Carolina Beach Town Council voted to expand the number of “beach services” permits from two to three.
Some beach goers say while they don’t mind the vendors, they appreciate the limitations.
“I think it’s good to allow a variety of vendors to be available as long as it’s not overwhelming. So I appreciate the fact that Carolina Beach is looking to be careful about how many vendors they have, that’s good, but there should be competition,” Scott said.
“I think anybody trying to get a piece of the American Dream, a little piece of that American pie, make a little money through their business, go for it,” Mitchell said.
Tony Silvagni Surf School applied for that third permit and the following day, the Fudgeboat also applied for one.
Town Manager Michael Cramer said he would let WWAY know by the end of the day which business would receive the permit.
We have not heard from him yet.
