New bilingual preschool coming soon to Oak Island
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A new preschool will be opening on Oak Island soon, and it will help students get a head start in learning Spanish as a second language.
Escuela Del Sol, a language and learning center in Oak Island, will soon offer classes for preschool-aged children between 2 and 5 years old.
Founder Gisella Brosche said it will be the first bilingual preschool in Brunswick County, allowing the center to begin teaching children two languages at a much earlier age.
“It means everything because if you get kids at a young age, they’re like sponges,” Brosche said. “So instead of having them learn their first language, we’re actually going to get them to be able to be bilingual from the very beginning. So we’re so super excited.”
Preschool classes will be held at Ocean View United Methodist Church.
Escuela Del Sol also offers Spanish classes for students throughout the county as well as adult language classes.
Jenna Childress has two children taking a Spanish class and will be enrolling her youngest in the preschool.
She said she can’t wait to see the impact this has.
“I’m really excited to see, you know, how he absorbs Spanish, you know, as well as speaking English at home, just because the speech delay has been something that we have had to overcome,” Childress said. “So I’m interested in seeing how well he’s going to do.”
Brosche said this school will also be a significant milestone for the town of Oak Island.
“So it’ll gonna be the first preschool in Oak Island, so not only is it the first (bilingual) preschool in Brunswick County, it’s the first preschool in Oak Island, the first school in Oak Island, cause there aren’t any schools in Oak Island right now.”
The center will hold an open house at Ocean View United Methodist Church on April 24th from 4 to 6 pm.
