New commercial kitchen soon to open at MLK Jr Community Center

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY NEWS) — Construction is underway for a new commercial kitchen at the Martin Luther King Junior Community Center in Wilmington.
The kitchen is part of a major expansion to the center.
The center’s old kitchen only had a dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator. The new kitchen is commercially sized with two stoves, a walk-in freezer, a fryer, and several fridges.
Dan Bloodworth is the center’s recreation coordinator, who says the new kitchen will help lots of people, including budding entrepreneurs.
“Might be interested in how to be a cook, how to get started. So they can get their start here. So that’s the youth community. But then, in the community, you may start your own catering business or entrepreneur, but you don’t have the access at your house. You can come to our facility, rent it out and have access to a full kitchen to expand your business.”
The kitchen is expected to be finished and open to the public in a few weeks.
