NEW DETAILS: 911 calls released in CB fires

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man, police suspect in a string of fires in Carolina Beach, appeared in a New Hanover County courtroom Monday.

Marshall Hudson Doran, 22, is charged with attempted first-degree burglary at 611 Carolina Beach Avenue South Saturday morning. Overnight, Fire officials said someone intentionally set three locations on fire.

At a news conference Sunday, the Carolina Beach police chief said he suspects Doran was involved in setting those fires, although he would not say how, and Doran is not officially charged with that.

Carolina Beach Fire Chief Alan Griffin said the first fire was called in at 2:28 a.m. to 409 Carolina Beach South Avenue. A second fire was called in at 3:45 a.m. on 811 Carolina Beach Avenue. A third fire was called in at 4:34 a.m. at 1123 South Lake Park Blvd.

The first two fires were at condo complexes, Sand IV and Bluewater, the third was a vehicle fire at Sea Ranch Motel.

Doran is being held under a $2.5 million bond, and that was not changed at his appearance Monday. Doran said at the hearing he would hire an attorney. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 18.

Doran has been in the headlines before, accused in a fatal hit-and-run on I-40 during last winter’s ice storm.
