NEW DETAILS: Ashley High JROTC leader clarifies controversial comment
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tonight WWAY went out to Chief Thomas Frost’s house and spoke with a woman who said Frost has lawyers and will be meeting with the school system to talk about the situation.
Four words written in a comment on Facebook have turned one Ashley High School JROTC leaders world upside down. The comment, written on a story about a shooting in Creekwood, reads “Do they truly matter?”
New Hanover County Schools said Chief Frost is currently suspended with pay pending an investigation by the Human Resources Department.
The story had many of you penning responses on social media as well.
Kimberly Munley wrote in part, “I know this man and he has done wonderful things for his community and his students who are of all races.”
Dennis Chinn said “Chief Frost is a fine man and teacher, my experience with him has been nothing but exemplary.”
One commenter shared a post from Frost himself where he went on to clarify what he meant by his initial comment. Frost’s response reads in part, “To clarify, this is an extremely sad and disappointing situation. …we should all unite and figure out a way to come together as a community, representing the country which has been through so much.”
Ilkan Ali however was not going so easy on Frost. He said in part, “every time we call out racism and people get caught, it’s either an apology, mistake, misunderstanding or someone was hacked!!!”
