NEW DETAILS: Inmate still missing in New Hanover County

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Escaped inmate Stephen Singleton is still missing after he escaped from the New Hanover County Correctional Center.

Keith Acree with the Department of Public Safety said Singleton was accounted for at a bed check at 4:00 a.m. but was noticed missing around 5:00 a.m.

Acree said officers are still following up on tips and leads at this point.

So far in 2016 five inmates have escaped from prison statewide. Acree said all of them are back in custody, except for Singleton.
