NEW DETAILS: Murder victim’s identity released

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New details have been released in a weekend murder where two arrests have been made.

Deputies say Adam Morton is facing first degree murder charges. After his court hearing Monday, he remains in jail under no bond. Deputies say Jamie Dee Cooper, 34, was also arrested in connection with the murder. She is charged with accessory after the fact and is being held in the New Hanover County jail under a $250,000 bond.

Deputies said the body of a man was found inside a home early Sunday morning on the 100-block of Gale Road. The victim, William Elliott, suffered multiple stab wounds. Deputies said the victim, along with the suspects, were all acquaintances and were partying together Friday night.

Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer says WPD asked the sheriff’s office to check out the house after receiving a tip while they were looking into the domestic situation. WPD was dispatched to a room at the Quality Inn in the 4900 block of Market Street late Saturday night. The victim told police Morton assaulted her and then ran. Cooper was the alleged victim in this case, District Attorney Ben David said in court Monday.

A man identifying himself as Cooper’s brother called 911 shortly after the assault at the motel.

“My sister said he robbed him and he stabbed him,” the caller said to the dispatcher. “He murder him at their house.”

Morton was located near the Burger King on 16th Street; he was caught after trying to run from authorities.

David said more charges will be filed against Morton.
