New electric vehicle chargers available in Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY)– As the adoption of electric vehicles continues to increase, one New Hanover County town is bringing the infrastructure to help support this growth.

Friday, a ribbon was cut on the first Direct Current Fast Charger for electric vehicles in Carolina Beach.

Direct Current Fast Charging is around 8-10 times faster than standard home charging.

Along with the fast charger comes two level two chargers off to the side.

According to Nicholas Newell, Shark Charge Project Manager, this charger has been strategically placed in order to accommodate island goers.

“The way that we have this charger set up here, people can pull up without having to disconnect their trailer to the backside of the charging island here and charge their vehicle. That makes this one of the first chargers really in our area that’s capable of doing that,” said Newell.

The station is currently online, and charging starts at just 22 cents a kilowatt hour.

The new chargers are located at 1140 N Lake Park Blvd directly across from town hall.
