New exhibit at Cape Fear Museum explores the history of video games

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new, interactive exhibit at the Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington is creating a buzz for kids and adults.

The new exhibit explores the history of video games. The traveling exhibit is called “Game Changers,” and walks visitors through the inception of video games with “Pong,” all the way through to modern day.

While you’re there, you can also play some of the most influential games of the last 65 years.

Museum Curator Heather Yenco said the exhibit offers fun for all ages.

“Kids like to play video games, but also adults do too and adults have come in and relive their teenage years by playing Pac-Man and Tetris, and are able to share those stories with people of all ages,” Yenco said.

The exhibit will be on display at the museum until April 25, 2025.

Cape Fear Museum of History and Science is located at 814 Market Street and is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.

Standard admission prices are $8 for adults; $7 for seniors, students, and military with valid ID; $5 for children 6-17; and free for children 5 and under and for museum members.

New Hanover County residents’ free day is the first Sunday of each month. Cape Fear Museum is also a partner of Museums for All and offers free admission to SNAP benefit recipients when they present an EBT card.
